My brother Lester Eugene Maynard served in vetnam from 1967 to 1968, was killed in feb.12-1968. I am pleased to be his sister, he gave his life to go an fight for what he beleived in. My mother and father begged him not to go but he said this is what he is suppose to do for his country. Before he went to nam, he broke his footand they told him they was not going to nam, but he told his commanding officer he wanted to go, and do what was best for his country.
I am proud of him and all the men who served in vetnam. All of you men are very dear to my heart. Thank you men for serving our country when we needed you. As i get older i think of you and my brother every day. Once again i THANK YOU FOR EVERY YOU ALL HAVE DONE FOR YOUR COUNTRY AND MINE. May god be with each and everyone of you.

On February 29th five of us are returning to Vietnam after an absence of over 41 years. We were the group called the "boat people" who arrived in country in December 1966. This is something I have thought about for many years. One a Tuesday in 1967 I was under fire and in two days, on a Thursday, I was standing in front of my home in California. I never had any closure to Vietnam and paid the price over the years.I hope to bury some ghosts and face my demons and come home with a better feeling for the country and people. The first week we are visiting all the places related to the war, including paddling up some of those little jungle streams in canoes. We are going to our village of Long Duc III, boat on the Saigon River, go to the French Fort, and walk on jungle trails a little. The second week we will be tourist and visit resorts on the coast, fish, golf and sight-see. I want to come back with a good feeling about the country. This is a healing process first and a vacation second. No wives on this trip, just fellow vets. I know it has been many years for all of us, but if you are still having issues with your time in Vietnam, go to a Vet Center. Don't wait any longer. They have given me lots of assistance and helped me to deal with my experience over there. The Iraq War is what the catalyst was for me. Too many of the old feelings came back and I found I never dealt with them. You can't do it on your own, we all need someone to help us. Enough preaching. There is help for any of us who want it. Hey, after Vietnam the rest of our life should be gravy. Anyone wanting info on going to Vietnam, just ask. Eric Cortez Recon, Echo Co., 2/3 "66-'67
